PROJECT EVALUATION

The group project is a major part of this course and will be worth 40% of the grades for this class. Each student will be graded individually so your individual project report is also important. The team project will be evaluated according to the following guidelines.

  1. Technical (50%)

    Correct application of automation/programming for function, convenience, and visual presentation.

    • Correct XHTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, and database code.
      Appearance on different platforms, under different browsers, Easy to upgrade and maintain
      Appropriate use of audio/video/Flash
      Use of form sessions
      HTTP1.1 features
      Actionscripting and Flash
      W3C XHTML strict and CSS validation on all pages and style sheets.

    • Javascript and DOM dhtml incorporation (required) and appropriate use

    • Form and form processing with PHP incorporation

    • Site search (required)

    • Security features, such as restricted areas, login (required)

    • E-business and/or E-commerce features, site admin

    • Extensive and appropriate use of server-side programming and database (required)

    • Avoid direct use of tool-generated HTML or CSS code. You must hand-code or hand-tune the code to be compact and efficient.


  2. Organization (20%)
    • Does the information make sense?

    • Is the information architecture logical? innovative?

    • What kind of information is the viewer looking for on the site and is it there?

    • When you click on a section does is take you to where you think you should go?

    • Does the copy make sense?

    • Are three spelling, grammar errors?

    • Does the copy need to be edited?

    • Does information need to be added in order to make sense?


  3. Design/Aesthetics (30%)
    • Concept/idea

    • Unity/diversity/balance

    • Any forms must be designed to fit into the site

    • Permutations from page to page are interesting

    • Achieving requirements and objectives

    • Multimedia presentation and or Flash site entry (required)

    • Multimedia virtual tour of physical facilities, offices, stores, and/or products (required)

    • Consistency

    • Color, type, layout used effective

    • Overall impression
