Photoshop BulletinStudents who are not familiar with using Photoshop photo imaging program are advised to review the software and understand the fundamentals of the program by the 7th week of the semester. At this time, many of the graphic issues for the web will be covered and you will be able to follow the lessons with ease. If you are already familiar with the program, you can skip the next section. If not, please read on.
There are hundreds of Photoshop books available to help you learn the
program. If you only go to one source such as amazon.com (discount book
store on-line) and type in Photoshop, you will get 184 + sources. Most
of them can be broken down into several =93unofficial=94 categories. (If =
you One such category is the "how to books" which take you through the fundamental steps of creating and manipulating images in the program. The second category is "tips and techniques" which specifically show you a recipe for your particular technique. The third seems to be the "showcase samples" created with Photoshop which usually show you the "best of what is out there" in a particular media and give you the case studies documenting the design process and results. Rather than buying the basic "how to work in Photoshop" book, we recommend that you first consult the "Help for Adobe Photoshop=AE" found inside the Photoshop application folder. This is a very good source if you're just starting to learn the program. It is comprehensive and includes most of the material found in the manual. (Manuals come with purchases software. If you want to order them separately, they are around $60.00 dollars) Simply click on the Help for Adobe Photoshop icon and read through the desired sections. Macintosh Edition Where can I use the application in MC and VCD facilities? There are 10 Photoshop for Windows in the MC lab and 24 Photoshop for the Macintosh in the Art building, Resource Center, room 215. Both labs are free to students who are taking the Web Design and Programming course.
The CS PC lab, located at room 162 in the Math and CS Building,
has over 10 Win95 PCs equipped with Photoshop. If you have
an account with the Mathematics and Computer Science Department
you will be able to use these machines. This lab will also be
reserved for the Web Design and Programming class for tutoring, Web testing, and
other purposes. The reservation schedule will be announced to the class
also. In this lab, To use the VCD Resource Center, you will be need a "computer card" issued by Sanda second week of classes. This card may be used to pay for computer time while you're working in the VCD lab. Color and black and white copies are not included and must be paid for with a separate card, called the "blue card" which may be purchased at the Art Department Office, Art Building (phone, 2192) Please see Becky or Susan, Mon-Fri 8:00-5:00. |
