Web Design and Programming I

Course Overview

Jointly offered by Computer Science (CS) and Visual Communications Design (VCD) at Kent State University, this course introduces Web concepts and teaches the creation of Web pages and Web sites. The hands-on course is designed for learning through doing. Computer science, programming, visual communication, graphic design, networking, and application aspects of Web publishing will be covered. Students take this course to learn how to design and create a Web site as part of a team.

This course is part of the WDP minor offered jointly by the CS and VCD departments. The minor is available for Arts and Science majors and VCD majors. Other students interested in this major need to contact the CS department and their own department to obtain permission. For details see the requirements for CS majors and the requirements for VCD majors. For CS majors to take this WDP-I class, a prerequisite (see this page) exists for those who want to take the WDP Minor. If you are simply going for the WDP sequence and not interested in the WDP Minor. Ask the instructor for permission to register. Here is the prerequisite structure for CS majors to take the WDP sequence.

CS 47105 Web Design & programming I -- (CS 33001 and VCD 37000)
CS 47106 Web Design & programming II -- (CS 47105)
CS 47107 Web Design & programming Studio -- (CS 47106 and VCD 46003)

Students with sufficient background may register for this course. Upper level CS ugrad may take this class at the 5K level under the combined BS/MS degree program. Enrollment is limited to about 24 students.
